Meet our Principal Investigator

Dr. Sophie Lebel, C.Psych is a clinical psychologist and Full Professor at the University of Ottawa with a focus on cancer survivorship and psychosocial interventions.

She has contributed to the definition and measurement of fear of cancer recurrence and clinical recurrence, validated a blended model of fear of cancer recurrence, and co-developed a cognitive existential group intervention for survivors that has been tested in two RCTs. In 2015, she obtained CIHR funding to host a 2-day colloquium on fear of cancer recurrence in Ottawa that led to the creation of an international research group called FORWARDS. She was the recipient in 2015 of the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology Early Career Award and currently serves as the Chair of the fear of cancer recurrence SIG with the International Psychosocial Oncology Society. She is a sought-after keynote speaker on recent developments in the field of fear of cancer recurrence research.
